Compatibility
Electric Miles is integrated with the Octopus API to fetch the correct rates and default off-peak windows for the Octopus Intelligent tariff.
However, we are not integrated with Octopus’ Kraken smart-scheduling system, which is what makes the tariff “intelligent.”
As a result, while we can display the tariff and its standard window rates, we cannot shift charging times dynamically in the same way Kraken does.
How Octopus Intelligent Works via the Octopus App
When managed through the Octopus app, Kraken can move charging sessions outside the default off-peak windows if it detects grid constraints or surplus green energy.
Even if charging happens outside the default windows, Kraken still applies the off-peak rate.
Why Conflicts Occur
If a user is registered with Octopus Intelligent in the Octopus app and their charger is linked there, the Octopus app will control the charger.
This control can override Electric Miles’ planned schedule, causing:
Charging to start/stop at unexpected times.
Missed opportunities to earn Miles.
Incomplete sessions or misaligned charging.
Your Options to Avoid Issues
Use Electric Miles only for full control over charging times.
Use Octopus Intelligent via the Octopus app only by disabling Electric Miles scheduling.
Use both understanding that Octopus may override Electric Miles’ schedule and reduce potential savings or Miles earned.
Overrides & Mid-Session Changes
You can manually override charging at any time, but this will not resolve underlying schedule misalignment if both systems are active.
Future Plans
Direct integration with Kraken is under consideration, but there’s currently no ETA. Until then, both systems will operate independently.
If Charging Didn’t Start/End as Expected
Most likely, the Octopus app (via Kraken) adjusted the charging window outside the Electric Miles plan to optimise for grid or green-energy availability.
